Two Excellent Documentaries about Cities

Citizen Jane

Citizen Jane: Battle for the City (2016) - IMDb

I am currently reading through the new biography of Jane Jacobs and loving it. This documentary is a study in contrasts between the top down approach of modernist tear it down agenda and the bottom-up organic, street-level vision of cities. The documentary does a good job of illustrating the philosophical divergence.

City of Gold

City of Gold (2015) - IMDb

I am a huge Jonathan Gold fan. His list of 100 guided my eating when I lived in Southern California. And I have used his method of taking small restaurants seriously with my taco review in Madera. The documentary is a beautiful eulogy to a man we lost far too early. If you love food, Los Angeles, or thoughtful food writing, this documentary is for you.
