It’s hard to know if the seemingly declining numbers of classical music is a blip or a real problem. People’s tastes and preferences are real and we can’t create artificial preferences or preserve things that people don’t want anymore. It’s just non sustainable to prop up arts organizations that people are not interested in supporting; that’s what is happening across the nation as subscriber bases are dropping in non-major metropolitan centers on the coasts. It’s something that I have been thinking a lot about these days.
